Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed why the European champions have made only one signing this summer. The English giants have only signed one player until now – Sepo van den Berg from PEC Zwolle for £1.4m.

The Merseysiders capped off a brilliant season by beating Tottenham to win their sixth European Cup title. However, they suffered disappointment as they finished just a point behind EPL winners Manchester City.

Talking to Liverpool Echo, Klopp said that the club is unable to compete with the financial muscle of other European heavyweights.

“It’s not easy,” he said.

“I said last year that to improve the team is not easy with reasonable money. With crazy money, you always can do it – okay, you pay whatever you want, then it’s possible.”

“We are not a club like that. We cannot do that. We are really wealthy but we cannot do what some other teams are doing. That’s how it is.”

The German tactician also said that the Kop need not match their summer spendings in the previous years this time.

“But we don’t have to. We have to find solutions during the season.”

“Yes, you find sometimes the solution in the transfer market and we have done that. I don’t have to name the players, everybody knows.”

“But otherwise you have to find the solutions on the training ground and that’s what we do now.”
