Jurgen Klopp wants to find the right centre-back to sign

Jurgen Klopp is not certain about player arrivals this month.

Liverpool’s need for a centre-back was clearly pointed out when Nat Phillips and Jordan Henderson paired up in the second half of the 3-1 win over Tottenham.

Joel Matip had to be taken off at half-time and Fabinho missed the fixture entirely. With Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk out indefinitely, the Reds have suffered defensively this campaign.

If they were to make just one addition this month, it would be at the heart of their defence. But Klopp understands that signing anyone is not guaranteed.

He said, “I am not picky but we need to find the right player. We have some. Not a lot. If you have a centre-half available at a reasonable price and the quality we need, then you can send me a message and I will go for it. We cannot just bring a body in. The situation is unbelievably strange.”

When asked about Matip, Klopp continued: “It looks like something serious.”

Now, Liverpool fans will be overly concerned given how the season has gone for most teams in the Premier League. A lack of squad depth is coming back to haunt everyone, given how closely the games are scheduled.
