Bonucci believes Liverpool are among Champions League favourites

Juventus centre-back Leonardo Bonucci believes Premier League leaders Liverpool are one of the four favourites who could lift the Champions League trophy come May.

The defensive stalwart left the Old Lady in 2017 to join AC Milan, but re-joined the Italian champions last summer. The 31-year-old was speaking to Sky Sports about his second spell in Turin.

He said:”I am more mature now, I know what I am doing and I am less instinctive. I’ve experienced things in life that made me grow, I am a better man now, for sure a different one”.

When asked about Juventus’ Champions League last-16 tie against Atletico Madrid and the possible winners of the competitions, Bonucci replied:”It’s going to be a balanced clash with Atletico.

“They have a great manager and top players like Griezmann, Saul and Diego Costa. They always fight for La Liga and the Champions League.

“I think there are four favourites: Barcelona, City, Juventus and Liverpool. Teams with an identity. The Champions League can be very surprising. Look at Liverpool, they were underdogs last season and they reached the final”.

Liverpool will face German champions Bayern Munich in the last-16 tie, with the first leg being at Anfield on 19th of February. The return leg will be at the Allianz Arena on 13th March.

The Reds have a four-point lead at the top of the league table, as they seek to lift their first league title since 1990.
