When you have a Virgil Van Dijk in defense, do you really need anyone else?
Well, apparently the Liverpool hierarchy thinks so! The Reds had two fantastic seasons under Jurgen Klopp. They won the CL, Club world cup and are en route to winning their first Premier League trophy in over 3 decades now.
A huge credit of their tremendous success has to go to their defense, which is clearly the world’s best now. In right back, they have young Trent Alexander Arnold who has racked up over 12 assists already, the highest by any defender. In left-back, Andy Robertson is a tank who can sprint up and down and go again after a 120-minute match. Their goalkeeper won 3 golden gloves and FIFA’s best Goalkeeper award in the recently concluded ceremony.
And in center-back, they have the world’s best player? Certainly within a shout, is Virgil Van Dijk. He has been imperious and commanding. His partners have let him down on occasion with neither Gomez nor Matip looking up to the task. Lovren is beyond our consideration.
In light of such events, it would appear that Liverpool is plotting a move for Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly. If there is one player who can match VVD’s pace, power, precision, tackling, and leadership it is Koulibaly. He’s a pillar and a mountain at the back and is brilliant on the ball and a threat from set-pieces.
If he were to join Liverpool, other teams can forget about taking them down or even getting past them to score a goal. It would certainly make for a fancy line up but that man alone would cost them over $100 million, as Napoli are not remotely keen on selling him!
However, it is being reported that the Reds have already made initial contact meaning that they are serious about their business.
