N’Golo Kante of Chelsea is the target summer acquisition for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

Despite adding attacker Cody Gakpo to the roster in the January transfer window, the club’s underwhelming midfield was under increasing pressure from supporters.

Prior to the 2023–24 season, Klopp had made hints that changes to the midfield will be made during the summer transfer window. Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund and England continues to be Liverpool’s primary target, but a Spanish source indicates that the Reds will focus on Kante first.

Since joining Chelsea from Leicester City, the France World Cup winner has played a crucial role in the club’s success, helping Chelsea win the Premier League, Champions League, and other championships. Kante hasn’t played for Chelsea since August of this year, however, due to a muscular ailment.

Liverpool is reportedly interested in making Kante their first summer acquisition as the midfielder enters the last months of his contract. Chelsea added seven new players during the January transfer window, and an other player will shortly be disclosed. This represents a significant reorganisation of the team.

After spending £270 million in the summer, the London club’s new owner Todd Boehly has spent an astounding £288 million alone in the winter transfer window. While N’Golo Kante’s future is still up in the air, it will be intriguing to see if Liverpool can sign the seasoned midfielder and strengthen their midfield in time for the 2023–24 season.
