Klopp confirms Joe Gomez will miss the Champions League tie against Bayern
Jurgen Klopp has said that star defender Joe Gomez is likely to miss the Champions League last-16 tie against Bayern Munich.
Speaking to the media ahead of the Reds’ Premier League game against West Ham, the German was updating us with injury recovery of two youngsters – Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
While the latter is expected to be back to full training next week, the former might still miss two to three weeks of action before returning to the first-team frame.
Gomez got injured in early December when Liverpool were playing Burnley at Turf Moor. A Ben Mee challenge was fair on the ball, but it knocked the ankle hard of the Reds’ defender.
It was early diagnosed that he will be back by mid-January, but the further progress is taking a bit of time.
Klopp said: “[There’s] no return date for Joe. Trent is getting better and better and better.
“He (Trent) is really close and I hope he is in full training next week, but not for Monday.”
On asked whether Gomez could make a come back by the time Bayern visit Anfield for the first leg of the Champions League tie, Klopp added: “No, I don’t think so.”
Liverpool now have to focus on their next league game against West Ham on Monday night. James Milner is expected to deputise at right-back in that game.
