Jurgen Klopp heaped praise on captain Jordan Henderson for his excellent performance against Bayern Munich

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp heaped praise on captain Jordan Henderson after the midfielder stood with a fantastic performance against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night in the Champions League.

The Reds played a 0-0 draw in the first leg of last-16 tie against Bavarians at Anfield, leaving everything to play for in the second leg at the Allianz Arena in three weeks time.

Klopp was forced to play Fabinho at centre-back due to Virgil van Dijk’s suspension and Dejan Lovren’s injury, meaning Henderson was guaranteed to start yesterday.

To be fair to both players, they did an excellent job to nullify what Bayern threw at them throughout the course of 90 minutes.

Speaking to the press post match, the manager said:

“A clean sheet without the big man – probably not a lot of people would have expected that. That was very good.

“Defending in general was good. And of course, Hendo did a brilliant job there, it was unbelievable how many balls he won back and stuff like that.

“It was a fantastic game from him – but that’s actually what we expect as well.”

Liverpool now turn their attention towards a vital league game away at Manchester United this Sunday.
