Klopp opposed to buying if it unbalances squad

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp is not keen on buying players who might disrupt the squad balance at Liverpool.

He said: “We will build a squad where everyone feels he is needed. That means sometimes we can be a little short of an A1 solution, but we always have a solution.

“As long as we have that, we will work with that. It’s not possible for us to have a squad of 20 world class players.

“We have to perform at a world class level and that is possible in different line-ups and our players all have that potential to be world class, but sometimes they don’t play enough to be able to show that.

“We all want to be prepared for situations when you have injuries but of course we aren’t. Nobody is, and it always hits the wrong player.

“If you think of a department where we have enough cover, it always hits another one where you don’t have enough alternatives and you have to start getting creative immediately.

“So squad building is tricky but the answer is never to have more players than you need.

“That feels comfortable for a moment but then you have a completely different set of problems all year.

“That’s why it’s always difficult to decide what is the right number, but so far we’ve done quite okay on that and hopefully it will stay like that.”
