Due to a hamstring injury sustained at the beginning of this week, Virgil van Dijk will be out for “more than a month,” according to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp

As the Reds were humiliated by Brentford in the Premier League, Van Dijk was forced to leave the game at halftime. It was later discovered that the problem was more serious than initially believed.

After additional evaluations the following day, Klopp is now in a position to give the scenario its first recovery timeline. The Liverpool manager remarked, “Virg was a surprise for us and a major blow,” prior to this weekend’s FA Cup third-round matchup against Wolves.

“The prognosis was fairly dire. Although it’s been almost a month, I hope it goes quickly. It’s challenging, but for him, recent years have seen an astounding quantity of gaming. With that kind of lead time, the earliest Van Dijk might make a comeback is in the middle of February. Between now and then, Liverpool has five games, starting with Wolves’ FA Cup visit and ending with the Merseyside derby on February 13.

Liverpool’s level of defense’s central cover is a source of concern. Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, and Nat Phillips are the only senior centre backs available to Klopp. Matip and Konate, though, have each experienced injury issues this year.

Billy Koumetio, a 20-year-old defender on loan at Austria Vienna, is being called back to Liverpool. The young Frenchman has participated in two first-team matches for the organisation, but it’s unclear whether Van Dijk’s injury was what set off the process that led to his recall.
