John Aldridge asked Klopp to sort out Wijnaldum’s future at the club before pursuing Thiago Alcantara.

The Netherlands midfielder has been linked with a move away from Anfield this summer to join Barcelona where coach Ronald Koeman holds him in high regards.

The 29-year old midfielder joined the Reds in 2016 from Newcastle United and featured in 187 games across all competitions since then.

According to Liverpool legend John Aldridge, Wijnaldum is a crucial player in Klopp’s squad and has been instrumental in their Premier League glory this season as well as Champions League triumph in 2019.

Liverpool are currently on the pursuit of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara whose contract runs out in June 2021.

Aldridge told Sunday World: “You very rarely see him giving the ball away, but he did that a few times in the first half against Arsenal [in the Community Shield] and that may be because his future is up in the air.

“There has been a lot of talk that Thiago Alcantara will replace Wijnaldum in the Liverpool squad and there are rumours that he has been tapped up by Barcelona’s new manager Ronald Koeman.

“[Klopp] will want that situation resolved quickly because players who are uncertain over their future can be affected in matches and Liverpool can’t afford to allow that issue to become a big problem ahead of the transfer deadline on October 5th.”
