Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has confirmed he will miss the start of the 2022/23 season.

The centre-back was forced from the field in the second half of Sunday’s pre-season loss to Strasbourg.

Writing on social media, Konate confirmed: “Unfortunately, I have to spend some time off the pitch but it won’t be too long.

“In the meantime, I will be doing my best to come back even stronger and supporting the boys.”

Manager Jurgen Klopp is well covered at centre-back with Joe Gomez, who signed a new contract this summer, providing another option. Liverpool can also still call upon Nat Phillips, who could leave the club before the end of the transfer window if their £10 million valuation is met.

Liverpool will start their campaign against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
