Phil Thompson believes Premier League fans are worried that Liverpool could embark another period of dominance
Liverpool legend Phil Thompson believes that the Premier League fans fear that his former team could embark another era of dominance if they end the wait of a league title at the end of this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s are involved in a title race with Manchester City, and are currently second in the table on goal difference, having played a game less.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Thompson said:Â “A lot of fans are worried about the cycle coming around again, not just Manchester United.
“They are frightened. That’s why they are starting to get nervous of Liverpool winning the Premier League again.
“A lot of people don’t want it like the 70s and 80s again and a lot of people wouldn’t want Manchester United to do it again.”
The Reds can strengthen their position at the top of the table by beating Manchester United on Sunday, but it won’t be easy as the Red Devils are a resurgent unit under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Before facing their arch-rivals, Liverpool will welcome Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie at Anfield.
