Liverpool advised to snub Emre Can in the Champions League final

The midfielder continues to head towards free agency

Emre Can joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen back in 2014 and has been a regular for the team in the midfield area, scoring 14 goals in 166 appearances.

The German International has played 37 games this season in all competitions, scoring six goals and assisting five.

The 24 year old has missed last two months of the season with back problem but is set to resume training. He traveled with the squad for their warm-weather training camp in Marbella on Wednesday and is hoping to play the Champions League final against Real Madrid on 26th May but continues to head towards free agency.

The midfielder’s contract will expire at the end of the season and is likely to leave the club on a free transfer as the negotiations between them have hit an impasse. Despite club’s several offers for a new and improved contract, he has rejected every advances.

He has been heavily linked with a move to Juventus this summer and it has been reported that once his contract expires he will join them in the summer.

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has urged Jurgen Klopp to snub Can in the Champions League final and wants them to put their trust on others.

Alridge told the Liverpool Echo: “I’m not sure I want Emre Can in the squad for the Champions League final on Saturday because his heart isn’t at Liverpool.

“It’s a tricky one for the manager. Do you use his experience now he’s fit or do you turn to people whose future is at the club?

“A lot of fans wouldn’t want Can on the bench. The club has had a custard pie from him and his agent.

“He’s been part of the journey to this final but he certainly doesn’t deserve to start against Real Madrid. Why does he want to leave? Money. Is the Italian league better? No. Juventus are a huge club but Liverpool have won the Champions League more times than them.

“I would question the advice he’s been getting but if he wants to go this summer then go.”
