Liverpool have revealed the extent of the injury to Virgil Van Dijk.

The Reds suffered plenty of bad luck in the Merseyside derby on Saturday as they were robbed of 3 points by a bad refereeing decision and at the same time, lost Thiago for a week.

To cap it all, it was the horror injury suffered by their main man Virgil Van Dijk as Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford went in rashly on the Dutch defender.

Liverpool have now unfortunately announced that the player has torn his ACL and will have to undergo surgery. It means that the player could well be set to be out for 6-7 months and will at best available for the end of the season!

It means Liverpool will have to reorganize their defence and depend on a Matip-Gomez center-back partnership for the majority of the season. They can at best use Fabinho as a makeshift centre back who can do a good role on a given day but might be up against it when he faces the best strikers.

It might force Klopp’s hand to buy a world-class centre back in January. A certain Kalidou Koulibaly will be available and it might help the Reds in the long term to have a partnership of Koulibaly and VVD!

For now let’s hope the player recovers fast and smooth!
