Liverpool wants to pay £1.5 million to Puskas Akademia for Hungarian goalkeeper Armin Pecsi. Considered a player for the future, the 20-year-old goalie will start for the under-21 team in the upcoming campaign.
However, regular training sessions with first-team goalkeeper Alisson Becker and new signing Giorgi Mamardashvili will give him opportunities to impress Reds manager Arne Slot. The young talent is expected to fly to Merseyside in the next few days to officially swap clubs, and it is rumored that his present team, Puskas Akademia, would get a record fee for him.
Puskas’ academy produced Pecsi, who has since made 52 appearances for the team across all competitions while recording 15 clean sheets. He has made five appearances for the Hungary under-21 team as well.
Pecsi might join Liverpool as their third Hungarian player in the upcoming campaign. Dominik Szoboszlai is already available to the Reds, and they wish to add another player that the midfielder is somewhat familiar with.
Liverpool set to sign Armin Pecsi as golden boy
According to Nemzeti Sport, Pesci, who plays for Hungary at the Under-21 level, skipped the team’s training camp this week to go to England and complete his transfer to Liverpool. The Premier League winners are reportedly in “advanced negotiations” with Puskas Akademia, and a contract may be revealed as early as next week, according to the source.
Puskas Akademia is expected to pay a club-record amount for their highly regarded goalie. The Golden Boy award for the world’s greatest Under-21 football player included Pesci as one of its nominees last month.
In the meantime, Liverpool, which agreed to a £29 million agreement with Valencia last year, will also sign Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer. In addition, the Premier League winners are still negotiating with Bayer Leverkusen to recruit Florian Wirtz, who has turned down Bayern Munich and is determined to transfer to Anfield this summer.
