Prior to the summer, Liverpool is allegedly thinking about pursuing Stanislav Lobotka in a transfer

With names like Jude Bellingham, Mason Mount, and Matheus Nunes frequently mentioned in transfer rumors, the Napoli midfielder is just one of many players in his position who have been connected with the Reds. Furthermore, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic of Lazio has also been mentioned in connection with a potential Anfield transfer, according to weekend sources. He is not the only Serie A player to have been mentioned in this regard.

Liverpool may pursue a summer transfer for Lobotka and may contemplate submitting a bid for €50 million (£43 million), claims Calciomercatoweb. According to the story, Napoli might find it “difficult” to decline an offer of this magnitude. The teak-tough number six player, who is 28 years old, has already made an impression against Jurgen Klopp’s team. In Napoli’s 4-1 victory over Liverpool in the Champions League group stage, he took five of his seven duels, according to Sofascore, and six of eight in the rematch at Anfield two months later.

In Serie A this season, he has averaged 2.3 successful tackles per game in addition to winning personal fights. (as per WhoScored). In the current Premier League season, only two Reds players have a higher tackling average than average. (WhoScored). But Lobotka is more than just a “hard man” for the middle. He almost always makes good use of the ball when it is in his possession. He outperforms every Liverpool player who started a top-flight game in 2022–23 with a passing success rate of 94.5%, and he is among the best midfielders in the top five leagues in Europe by that metric. (as per FBref).

According to a Forbes article from last October, the Slovakian “possesses that Andres Iniesta-like quality of being able to spin in either direction while facing his own goal” and “has semblances of the great Spaniard in him.” He was even compared to a contemporary legend.

A move for Bellingham seems “increasingly unlikely,” according to David Ornstein’s report for The Athletic this morning, so Lobotka might be a well-rounded midfield target worth contemplating. Lobotka is physically dominant and also very proficient with the ball.
