Liverpool emerges as front-runners for Goncalo Inacio signing
Liverpool are moving ahead in their pursuit to sign Sporting Lisbon’s talented defender Goncalo Inacio, with sources claiming the Merseyside club are now heavy favourites to sign the 22-year-old star in the upcoming transfer window.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Liverpool’s ambition to strengthen their defensive ranks has led them to look at Inacio as their initial choice. The Portuguese wonder caught the interest of the Reds’ scouting team, who have carefully followed his progress over the last year.
However, it is understood that the Premier League giants will need to satisfy Inacio’s £51 million release clause in order to complete the signing.
Inacio’s planned arrival at Anfield would be an important coup for Liverpool. The youngster’s powerful statistics in the Portuguese top division show his potential to prosper in difficult competition such as the Premier rivals.
However, doubts remain about how Inacio could fit into Liverpool’s defensive structure. As a left-footed center-back used to playing in a back three formation, he would have to get used to playing alongside defensive stalwart Virgil van Dijk in Jurgen Klopp’s system.
Yet Liverpool’s pursuit of Inacio shows their desire to strengthen their team for future challenges. With the club keen to find Klopp’s replacement by June, the possible signing of Inacio could signal the start of an exciting new era at Anfield as they try to reclaim their status as Premier League contenders.
