Liverpool Close To Agreeing £48m Deal For Timo Werner

According to Italian journalist, Nicholo Schira, Liverpool are ready to pay Timo Werner’s release clause before it expires.

It was earlier reported by Sport Bild that Werner had a clause in his contract which would let him leave for €55-60m. Liverpool were always favourites to sign him with plenty of other European outfits also chasing him. The problem is Werner’s clause is due to expire in April.

That means Liverpool will have to act fast if they plan on signing the Bundesliga highest-scorer this season. The Reds are lining up the full £48m required to prize him away from Leipzig and a deal could be agreed before the season is even over.

Of course, this would be a big signing for Jurgen Klopp’s side, given Werner’s scoring pedigree. The 23-year-old has already scored 25 goals in 29 appearances this season. He is versatile enough to play in any position in the final third.

Liverpool are already an attacking giant with the likes of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in their side. Addding Werner to the mix will only make them more lethal.
