According to IB Times reporter Oier Fano Dedebat, Liverpool are close to signing Real Sociedad defender Diego Llorente.

Llorente who’s 25 years old, started his career at Real Madrid and was in the club’s youth team from 2002-2012. After being in the reserves, Llorente made his senior team debut in 2013. However, the Spaniard spent most of his time either on the bench or at loan.

Llorente joined Real Sociedad in 2017 and has made 57 appearances  for the club since then, scoring 7 goals. This season, Llorente has made 23 appearances for Real Sociedad who finished 9th in the La Liga. His performances for Sociedad resulted in a call-up to the national team for their Euro 2020 qualifiers against Faroe Islands and Sweden.

Liverpool are willing to pay £25 million for securing the services of Llorente. However, provided Llorente joins Liverpool this summer, it will be very difficult for him to find a place in the first team. Liverpool already have one of the best centre-backs in the world in Virgil van Dijk. Hence, Llorente would have to compete with Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez for a place in the first XI.

However, Llorente could be someone who Jurgen Klopp could use as a regular in the FA Cup and League Cup matches. Liverpool had a poor showing in both the FA Cup and League Cup this season and the addition of Llorente could be the first step in the hope of better campaigns in those competitions next season.
