Sepp van den Berg is expected to be out for the rest of 2022.
The Liverpool player joined Schalke 04 on a season-long loan and has suffered serious ligament damage in a game against FC Augsburg.
He was expected to cement himself as an elite young defender at the German club but his recent game could have been his last for a while.
This was supposed to be a massive season for Van den Berg as he was expected to prove himself at the top level.
But Schalke technical director Rouven Schroder confirms it’s a serious injury for the 20-year-old defender.

“Two players suffered injuries in the 3-2 defeat against FC Augsburg on Sunday (2nd October),” Schalke write on their website.
“Sepp van den Berg was diagnosed with a serious ligament injury, while Rodrigo Zalazar suffered a metatarsal fracture in the game against the Fuggerstädtern.
“The injuries mean that both players will be unavailable for the rest of Schalke’s competitive games this calendar year.”
