As Arne Slot tries to make his first acquisition at Anfield this summer, Liverpool is allegedly in the running to recruit one of Europe’s most clinical attackers. Only two Premier League teams, including the Reds, have not added a new player to their roster this summer.

Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, formerly of Coventry, is apparently a target for Liverpool. Gyokeres had an incredible season in Portugal recently. After scoring 29 goals in just 33 Liga Portugal games, the Swedish attacker has been linked to transfers with Chelsea and Arsenal. Ben Mattinson, a football pundit, called him a “big game player” for his impressive display of play, which also included nine assists.

Liverpool linked with move for clinical Sporting CP striker

In addition, it has been reported that Liverpool has reached out to Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, a former Coventry player who had a fantastic season in Portugal. As per Football Insider, Liverpool has reportedly joined the list of Premier League teams vying for the striker’s services. Arsenal’s competitors, the Reds and Tottenham, have entered the race and shown interest by registering.

Given that Nunez, Diogo Jota, and Cody Gakpo can all play forward for the Reds, any move for Gyokeres may hinge on a departure from their front line. Despite acknowledging towards the end of the previous season that he had no idea what the future held for him, Gyokeres, who has scored an incredible 119 goals in 280 career games, maintains that he is content in the Portuguese capital.

Gyokeres said to A Bola in May, “It’s football; I can’t promise anything; I have a contract, and I won’t be sad if I stay.”
