The Daily Mail claims that during the forthcoming January transfer window, Liverpool is planning a daring approach for Everton’s teenage defender Jarrad Branthwaite. The 22-year-old center back garnered a lot of attention throughout the summer, especially from Manchester United, who had two bids turned down by Everton.
The departure of veteran defender Joel Matip due to his contract expiring was a blow to Liverpool’s defence, and the team is now trying to bolster its back-line alternatives. With just two signings goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and winger Federico Chiesa the Reds experienced a quiet summer transfer window.
Branthwaite, defender for Everton, is the guy they have selected as they attempt to strengthen their options at the back. A number of England’s largest clubs have expressed interest in the England international due to his notable ascent in the game following his stellar tenure at Goodison Park.
Liverpool plot stunning hijack of Man Utd move for Branthwaite
Man United made Branthwaite their primary target throughout the summer. According to reports, they made three proposals for him, the highest of which was £60 million with add-ons, but the Toffees were not persuaded to sell. As we have continuously stated, Everton values Branthwaite at more than £75 million and is unwilling to lower that amount, particularly for their nearby rivals Liverpool.
“Plans to make a fresh bid for Branthwaite next summer are in danger of being hijacked by Liverpool,” according to the Daily Mail, describes Manchester United. Despite signing Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro, the report claims the Red Devils still want to add another elite centre-back at the end of the season. Liverpool, on the other hand, is a “firm admirer” of Branthwaite and “may move for him in January and offer Everton closer to what they want.”
