The Reds are backed to emulate last summer’s move for Naby Keita

Liverpool were expected to strengthen the squad this summer and manager Jurgen Klopp has issued a a statement of intent in bolstering his squad in the transfer window by completing 4 signings.

The Reds have secured the signing of Naby Keita from RB Leipzig, Fabinho from Monaco, Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City and Alisson Becker from Roma.

Former Borussia Dortmund coach has been exploring for creative options this summer as he is looking to find a replacement for Philippe Coutinho who left them for Barcelona this summer. The England side has been linked with a move BVB rising star Christian Pulisic.

The 19 year old was signed by the German side back in 2015 and was assigned to their youth team. He made his senior debut during the 2016/2017 campaign and since then he has been a mainstay in the midfield of the team

The winger was one of the standout players last season, scoring 5 goals and assisting 7 in 42 games across all the competitions. He has already been described as the most technically gifted player ever produced by the United States of America.

But the Premier League giants didn’t follow up their interest on America International and Klopp even ruled out a move for him. However, he admitted that he is a huge fan of him and could move for him in the future.

The Bundesliga giants wants to keep hold of their prized asset but could be open to selling him next summer if he fails to pen a new deal, with his existing one expiring in 2020.

Liverpool have been tipped by German journalist Raphael Honigstein to emulate last summer’s move for Naby Keita and agree a deal for Pulisic for next year now.

“If things don’t change in terms of extending his contract is concerned, then he will then definitely be sold in the summer of 2019,” Honigstein told ESPN as quoted by Liverpool Echo. “That puts it into an interesting context because if you know there’s a club now, you wouldn’t force a deal through this summer, you could say ‘how about next summer?’.

“I think Liverpool, who have been very smart in recent years, could do almost ‘a Keita’ and say, you know what, next summer, Dortmund have to sell you. Why don’t you come to us then?

“We’ll do a do a deal now… of course it’s not strictly legal (laugh) so you have to keep it quiet, but it’s being done all the time in football, and that’s a very realistic scenario.”
