Liverpool could still potentially sign Caicedo from Brighton

Moisés Caicedo of Brighton & Hove Albion is a midfielder that Liverpool could pursue at Anfield

The club is expected to lose four players in the midfield by the end of the season, therefore Jürgen Klopp will be looking to overhaul his unit. According to sources, Caicedo drew interest from several of the Premier League’s top teams last month, with Arsenal having a second offer of £70 million for the midfielder rejected toward the close of the transfer window because it fell short of Brighton’s £80 million asking price.

Liverpool is rumoured to have been one of the clubs interested in signing the 21-year-old in January along with Chelsea, but a transfer to Anfield never materialised. Instead, it appears that the Reds were more interested in Borussia Dortmund and England star Jude Bellingham. The Reds were keeping an eye on Caicedo’s status during the winter transfer window, according to journalist Rudy Galetti, who told GiveMeSport last month. However, the midfielder stayed at the Amex Stadium and will continue there at least through the end of the current campaign.

Jacobs argues that it is impossible to completely rule out Liverpool making a play for Caicedo, but they would need to see financial benefit from the deal. The Brighton player has participated in 91% of Roberto De Zerbi’s team’s available Premier League minutes this season, scoring once and assisting just once.

The 28-cap Ecuadorian international has excelled on defence, earning an average Sofascore rating of 7.11 for the current season after recording 1.4 interceptions and 2.9 tackles per game, showing that he has been crucial for the Seagulls in disrupting the opposition’s attack.

Caicedo would therefore probably prove to be a fantastic addition for the Merseyside club, but a deal for the Brighton star may have to be put on hold for the time being due to Liverpool’s pursuit of Bellingham.
