Liverpool Could Suffer Huge Blow Due To Salah's International Demands

Liverpool have been warned about Mohamed Salah’s international aspirations in 2021.

The Egyptian is very eager to represent his country in the Africa Cup of Nations and the Tokyo Olympics which would mean significant time away from Merseyside.

Salah’s schedule will be far too busy to give his all for Liverpool’s 2020/21 campaign, especially since AFCON has returned to their winter schedule. After a year of hosting it in the summer, the competition is due to be held from 6 January to 9 February 2021 next. The Olympics will mostly be played by U23 players but Salah wants to be a part of the overage players to fire Egypt to the gold medal.

His teammate, Mido told the SUN, “Salah must go with Egypt to AFCON — and Liverpool don’t have the right to say no. These are Fifa rules and they can’t prevent Salah from joining the national team for any reason. If Salah doesn’t want to go, then this is the only reason for not seeing him. “He will be one of the most important players in the tournament, not only for Egypt. We now know the Olympics will be held in the summer of 2021. So hopefully things will go normally and the season will be finished by then and he will have the chance to play with the Olympic team.”

This could be a huge blow to Liverpool since Salah is undeniably one of their best players. He is a very big source of goals in the final third and the Reds do not have any immediate replacements for him in the squad. Rumours suggest that Liverpool are keen on signing RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner. Maybe the gap could be filled up if the German makes his way to Anfield this summer.
