Liverpool have finally taken matter into their own hands regarding Dejan Lovren after lengthy negotiations with Roma.

Liverpool have called off negotiations with Roma over the transfer of Dejan Lovren after growing frustrated at their attempts to change deal.

The Croatian was the subject of interest from the Serie A side and was left out of the travelling squad for Wednesday’s Super Cup win in Turkey, with illness cited by the club as reason for his absence.

Talks had been ongoing between the two parties ahead of a move, as according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma were interested in luring Lovren on a one-year loan with an option to buy set at €15 million. The Serie A club communicated that they were willing to put together a package that would see the defender earn €4 million per year.

However, it appears the Reds are only happy to sell Lovren on a permanent deal rather than loaning him out, and with Roma seemingly only willing to take the player on a short-term basis, negotiations have broken down.

All things considered, but Dejan Lovren has not lost hope of leaving England: “Lovren is very open to joining Roma and I think that’s obvious, seeing as we are talking about a great club,” FIFA agent Alessandro Lucci told Tuttomercatoweb.

“At times, you can overcome these obstacles. I don’t know if Lovren will join the Giallorossi, but as things stand, that would certainly be his priority.

“I also want to counter any stories of fitness issues. At the start of last year, after an entire season and the World Cup as a protagonist to the Final for Croatia, he had pelvic strain issues that kept him out for the initial part of the campaign, but that’s all.”

In recent seasons, Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker have moved to Anfield and been huge hits on Merseyside.
