Kostas Tsimikas and Andy Robertson are the Reds’ current left-back options, but the former is beyond his best. Next summer, Robertson might be let go, and Kerkez has been named as the main candidate to take his position. According to sources close to TeamTalk, the Reds have been carefully researching the 20-year-old Hungarian international under manager Arne Slot’s direction since they see him as Andy Robertson’s long-term replacement.

Given Robertson’s erratic play and age of 30, Liverpool is eager to add new competition at left back. After joining the Cherries from AZ Alkmaar last year, the Hungary international had a strong first season. The youthful player just recorded two assists in the thrilling victory over Manchester City, continuing his recent trend of improving performances this season.

Liverpool to replace a key defender in the long run

The past 18 months have seen Kerkez gradually improve his reputation under Cherries manager Andoni Iraola. The young player may decide to take on a more difficult task at the end of the season, and Liverpool may become a viable destination. Robertson’s contract is up in 18 months, but he might be let go in order to make room for a younger player next summer. The acquisition of Kerkez would be excellent. He is capable of making frequent overlapping runs and plays good defense.

The young player is reportedly admired by Chelsea as well, although a deal may require more than one left-back to leave. Although Ben Chilwell has no future with the team, a move for Kerkez might also depend on Marc Cucurella leaving. Unless he gets a guaranteed starting position in the Premier League, Kerkez is unlikely to pick the Blues over Liverpool.
