According to trustworthy German journalist Christian Falk, Liverpool is considering a summer transfer for Borussia Dortmund star Nico Schlotterbeck as a possible replacement for Virgil Van Dijk.

The Reds’ top three players, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Van Dijk, have contracts that expire at the end of the current campaign, and they are anxiously awaiting the summer transfer window to bolster their roster.

Despite having a fantastic season and now leading the Premier League table by 15 points, Arne Slot is eager to strengthen the team in order to improve, and a new defender is viewed as a priority given the current lack of available choices. Slot, though, will have to get his discouraged teammates back up following Tuesday night’s Champions League loss to PSG.

Bild journalist and head of football Christian Falk now claims that Liverpool is preparing for its captain’s potential departure by aiming for a transfer for Schlotterbeck. Nico Schlotterbeck (25, contract until 2017) of Dortmund is on Liverpool’s list, he wrote on X.

Liverpool put Dortmund powerhouse on their list as Van Dijk’s successor

Liverpool is looking to replace Van Dijk as Reds manager Arne Slot seeks to capitalize on the promising start he had in the Anfield dugout. Schlotterbeck is also on the club’s list of targets, according to Sport Bild.

Dortmund wants to offer the center back a new deal, so the Merseyside powerhouses might have trouble luring him away from Germany. Schlotterbeck’s current contract with Dortmund expires in 2027, but if Liverpool offers him a deal in excess of the £5 million he presently receives annually, his Premier League pursuers may turn him away.

Regarding his future at Anfield, Van Dijk has been quiet, despite rumors last month that he had already agreed to a new contract. However, the popular celebrity adamantly stated, “I have no idea what the future holds.

Anyone claiming to know it is mistaken. Additionally, he will be hoping to lead his team to the Premier League, Champions League, and Carabao Cup trebles before the season ends.
