1. McKenna : 337 goals in 127 matches @ 2.65 goals per match – Liverpool FC most attacking managers

He was the first manager of the Liverpool era. His team scored 337 goals and conceded 155 goals in 127 matches. As a manager he won 77 of those 127 matches and lost 30 while drawing 20 of those games. He was in charge from 1892 to 1896 collecting 251 points and having a win percent of over 60.

Since football was not so commercially big then, every one got a scene of it. McKenna or John Mckenna by his full name was a professional rugby player and then later an Irish businessman who went on to coach Liverpool by becoming their first manager.

The story of Mckenna is very interesting as it is said that he met Liverpool owner Houlding then who was very enthusiastic about Liverpool at a match versus local rivals Everton. McKenna was the club secretary when he wrote to the Football Association asking for Liverpool to be admitted to the League but was refused.

McKenna ended up taking the hard route where he took the Reds through the Lancashire League and won matches with big margins to finally play in the Football League in 1893 against Middlesborough and they won the match 2-0.

Mckenna went on to become the club chairman from 1906-1915 and later president of Football League from 1917 and stayed there for 19 years until his death in 1936.

2. Jurgen Klopp: 444 goals in 214 matches @ 2.07 goals per match – Liverpool FC most attacking managers

One only has to look at Klopp‘s position in the list to realise the kind of impact he has had on Liverpool. The most attacking Reds boss was the first one back all the way in 1892. And now after 122 years, they have found his successor it seems in Klopp who is the second most attacking boss for the Reds.

For a club, who have had so much historical success and love attacking football, Klopp hence is the ideal man. He has led Liverpool through a tough time to start with. When he took over, the club was a mere shadow of itself, finishing higher mid table, fighting for Champions League spots and without silverware for years.

Instead of getting immediate results, Klopp introduced a modified Geggenpressing style of football. Liverpool still suffered but at least there was a cause now. They continued to finish low and had no silverware but Klopp was building something special. It showed in glimpses as everytime they were on song and attacked, there was no stopping the Reds.

It transformed in three years into a team, who have now won the Champions League again, collected the most points they ever have in a league and have played some mind boggling relentless attacking football.

Klopp has transformed Anfield back to its olden days of glory and the Reds are now once again the most successful club in English history. Simply the magnanimous presence of Klopp also has an effect on the team, who every time when they step out on to the pitch play for the manager and the crowd and the club before themselves.

3. Kenny Dalglish: 617 goals in 307 matches @ 2.01 goals per match – Liverpool FC most attacking managers

This record is only keeping his first tenure in mind. He took charge of Liverpool from 1985 to 1991, where although they did not win the European trophy anymore but they did win some league titles.

Dalglish was already a Liverpool legend as a player. He came to the team from Scotland as a striker to replace Kevin Keegan and did a brilliant job of it. He won multiple trophies as a player along with European trophies and then as manager was successful as well.

However, this record may be called biased as his second tenure was a failure. He took over in 2011 for 18 months where he won nothing and had a less than 50% win rate. He however, still did the club a favour by signing them Luis Suarez so his contribution was massive still.

4. Philip Taylor: 294 goals in 150 matches @ 1.96 goals per match – Liverpool FC most attacking managers

He took over as 1956 for three years and had a good success rate at Anfield. He was a former Reds player who played for Liverpool till 1954 before becoming their coach and then their boss in 1954.

Howeve, his greatest legacy was getting backroom staff like Joe Fagan and Bob Paisley, who both went on to coach Liverpool.

5. Ronnie Moran: 20 goals in 10 matches @ 2 goals per match – Liverpool FC most attacking managers

He should not be on the list but technicality gets him in since he managed 10 games. He was a caretaker boss in 1991 for two months from February till April.
