Liverpool FC Defenders
- 4. Virgil van Dijk
- 12. Joe Gomez
- 6. Dejan Lovren
- 32. Joel Matip
- 26. Andrew Robertson
- 18. Alberto Moreno
- 66. Trent Alexander-Arnold
- 47. Nathaniel Phillips
- 51. Ki-Jana Hoever
Liverpool has a pretty decent defence this season with Virgil van Dijk marshaling it. Van Dijk has been in sublime form so far and is a top contender for the Premier League Player of the season award. Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren have all partnered van Dijk in central defence. Gomez took advantage of Dejan Lovren’s absence due to injury at the start of the season and did really well. However, he himself is now injured.
Dejan Lovren missed the start of the season due to injury but established himself as a regular during December. However, he too found himself on the sidelines after sustaining a hamstring injury in the FA Cup match against Wolves.
Joel Matip is currently partnering Virgil van Dijk in central defence in the absence of Gomez and Lovren and has done decently till now. However, he may find himself on the bench when Gomez and Lovren are fit.
Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold are Liverpool’s first-choice left-back and right-back respectively. The duo have done brilliantly this season so far and have frequently set up goals for Liverpool. The presence of Robertson have seen Alberto Moreno on the sidelines.
The likes of Nathaniel Phillips and Ki-Jana Hoever are backup options in Liverpool’s defense.

The addition of Naby Keita and Fabinho has enhanced Liverpool’s midfield. Keita has done fairly well in the 26 appearances he has made this season so far.
Fabinho hardly featured for Liverpool at the start of the season as he had to adapt to the Premier League first. However, he has now become a regular for Liverpool and also, a pretty crucial player. The Brazilian has also played as a right-back and centre-back on a few occasions.
Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum have all featured regularly for Liverpool this season. Wijnaldum has perhaps been Liverpool’s best midfielder this season so far. The Dutchman has made 33 appearances for Liverpool, scoring twice and making an assist. He has been sound in central midfield and has linked up well with the other players.
Skipper Jordan Henderson hasn’t scored or assisted this season yet but has been a fine holding midfielder so far. James Milner has used his experience and tenacity well to help Liverpool be in the position they are in the Premier League right now.
Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri are frequently on the bench but have often made substitute appearances this season.
Curtis Jones and Rafael Camacho have mainly played in the reserves but have managed to make an appearance or two for the senior team this season.

Liverpool boast of one of the deadliest attacking trios in the world in Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. The trio scored 91 of the club’s 135 goals scored last season and helped Liverpool to the Champions League final.
This season, the trio have done pretty well so far, scoring 50 of Liverpool’s 79 goals. A lot of Liverpool’s Premier League hopes are pinned on Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
The likes of Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi are Liverpoo’s backup options and have featured in the playing XI on less than a few occasions this season so far. However, they have made a few substitute appearances for the club so far.
The likes of Rhian Brewster and Ben Woodburn are other backup options for Liverpool in the forward department.
