Liverpool have been pursuing the French defender for the entire season now. The drop off in defensive quality has been significant after the horrific injuries they suffered this season. Konate’s arrival would be an aggressive move to address that issue.
The 21-year-old has emerged as a solid talent in the Bundesliga over the past few seasons. RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano has stolen headlines for the past two seasons but Konate has quietly developed just as well as him. The latter’s only drawback is his injury track record.
He has passed Liverpool’s medical but has missed over 400 days of action in his career so far. If he is to succeed at Anfield, Konate will have to ramp up his fitness routines.
