Liverpool Hit With Another Crisis As Van Dijk Gets Injured

Virgil van Dijk came down with a facial injury while playing against RB Salzburg.

Liverpool played a friendlies match with Austrian club RB Salzburg yesterday, and it left defender Van Dijk injured and had to leave the field.

“Virg only looks like he has a piercing now and has a plaster on it,” he told Liverpool’s official website. “It should not be, and is, no problem. In the moment it is, of course, not cool but there will not be a problem.”

This is the second injury that Jurgen Klopp’s side has been set back by this month – the first one being Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who got injured in the training camps in Austria. Oxlade-Chamberlain is speculated to be out for the remainder of the pre-season.

Jürgen Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com: “Really unfortunate. An unfortunate situation as well; it was a challenge [in training].

“It looks like it is very similar to what Hendo had, which keeps him out for we don’t know for sure exactly how long, but for sure this pre-season he will not make a game, Arsenal for sure not and then we will see. The next game is probably two weeks later, but I don’t know.

“We have to wait but it is far away from being perfect, of course. It is really hard for him and hard for us, but it is not to change.”
