Andy Robertson, a veteran, may soon be replaced by a young Liverpool player who has been attracting the attention of his country’s side. Kostas Tsimikas has filled in admirably for the Reds this season as Robertson becomes more and more sidelined due to injuries and fitness concerns, but a young academy product who is on loan is putting up a strong argument to be the next in line for the left-back position.
Former Liverpool attacker Craig Bellamy has officially called up Owen Beck to the senior Welsh national team for their Nations League matches against Montenegro and Iceland. After showing promise while on loan at Stoke, Lewis Koumas, another graduate of the Liverpool academy, has also been added.
‘Super talent’ now PUSHING to replace Andy Robertson
At Selhurst Park, Kostas Tsimikas gave an excellent first half performance against Crystal Palace, demonstrating why Arne Slot had trusted him. Upon making four changes after the midweek Champions League victory over Bologna, Slot included the somewhat unexpected left-back. The Reds gained the lead in the first half thanks to a goal from Tsimikas, who came in for regular first-choice selection Andy Robertson.
Jamie Carragher, a Liverpool great, praised Tsimikas’ contribution to the Reds’ opening goal as he made his first league start of the season. Tsimikas impressed both defensively and offensively. Carragher wrote on X following the goal, “Narrow fullback (Tsimikas) plays the pass for Gakpo, exactly why Slot wants his full backs narrow in the buildup.”
