According to reports, Liverpool are interested in signing RB Leipzig star Timo Werner. Werner has established himself as one of finest strikers in Europe in the past 12-15 months and has done very well for Leipzig so far.

Werner joined Leipzig from boyhood club Vfb Stuttgart on a transfer fee of €10 million which was a club record at the time. Since then, he has played 97 matches for the club, scoring 54 goals and providing 20 assists. This season also, Werner has done fine for Leipzig so far.

In 20 appearances across all competitions, the 22-year old has scored 12 goals and has provided three assists. Along with Robert Lewandowski and Marco Reus, Werner has scored the second most goals in the Bundesliga so far with 10 goals to his name.

Following Leipzig’s defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday, Werner hinted that he might join Bayern Munich. The striker said, “I’ve had a nice two and a half years at Leipzig, so they are in the picture [for next season]. There are other clubs in the picture. If you play in Germany and want to stay in Germany, there is only one club in question.”

However, according to Munich tabloid newspaper Abendzeitung, Liverpool are also in the race to sign the young Germany international. Apparently, Liverpool have kept close tabs on Werner.

Timo Werner’s current contract at Leipzig expires in 2020. Hence, Leipzig can secure a good amount by selling him provided he doesn’t sign a new contract with the club. Leipzig have conducted business with Liverpool earlier, having sold Naby Keita in the summer.

Werner earlier told FourFourTwo that he wanted to play for a few Premier League clubs that included Manchester United. The 22-year old said,  “Yes, playing in the Premier League is a dream for me. I would like to play for two or three clubs, and Manchester United are one of those clubs.”
