According to rumours in Italy, Liverpool is leading the race to recruit Teun Koopmeiners, an Atalanta midfielder, this summer. After Jurgen Klopp left the team at the end of the season, Arne Slot took over as manager of the Reds, while Richard Hughes joined the team as the new sports director after leaving Bournemouth.
The most recent transfer rumours indicate that Liverpool appears to have prioritized strengthening their midfield once more for the upcoming summer transfer window. Juventus and Liverpool have expressed interest in the 26-year-old after he had an outstanding season with Atalanta last year. Liverpool is reportedly in the lead to sign the player this summer for a reported €60 million, according to a report from Gazzetta Dello Sport.
Liverpool in pole position for Teun Koopmeiners
According to the source, Atalanta is prepared to sell the Netherlands international, but they would rather he join a team outside of Italy so they don’t support a direct competitor in their attempt to make a comeback. The Bianconeri believe that Atalanta’s request for €60 million (£51 million/$65 million) in direct transfer fees is excessive.
After managing the midfielder at AZ Alkmaar, Koopemeiners’ agent, Arne Slot, of Liverpool, is said to have insisted on Koopemeiners’ signing. As he embarks on his first season at Anfield, Slot values Koopmeiners’ positional versatility and would prefer to have a known face in his ranks.
