According to reports, Liverpool are keen on signing a replacement for Simon Mignolet, who is set to leave Anfield for Belgian outfit Club Brugge this summer. The Kop will be paid £6.4m which could rise to £8.2m with bonuses.

Jurgen Klopp currently has only one cover for first-choice goalkeeper Alisson – Caoimhin Kelleher, a 20-year-old U21 Irish international. Andy Lonergan, a former Preston North End keeper, trained with the Liverpool squad in the preseason. Meanwhile, Loris Karius is set to enter a second loan spell at Besiktas.

Karius moved to Turkey following his disastrous Champions League final performance in 2018, after Mignolet was denied a loan move to Napoli. Liverpool were reluctant to let the Belgian leave but agreed in the end to suit the player’s best interests.

The 31-year-old joined Liverpool in Brendan Rodgers’ reign in 2013 and was a starter for the following three seasons. He will leave Anfield on excellent terms, having made 204 appearances for the Kop.

Mignolet was also an unused substitute in Liverpool’s Community Shield clash against Manchester City.
