Liverpool legend Ian Rush has defended Mohamed Salah, claiming that he is not a diver and has backed him to become a Liverpool legend.

In the past few weeks, Salah has faced plenty of criticism due to his alleged diving.

However, Rush has come to the Egyptian’s defence. Rush believes that defenders foul him out of panic.

The Welshman said, “Mo Salah is not a diver. He’s an honest professional, he doesn’t deliberately go to ground. The fact is that he gets a lot of rough treatment from defenders. He’s too quick for a lot of them and they panic and foul him.

I think he’s had some very unfair criticism. Look what happened at Bournemouth, he got fouled badly but stayed on his feet because he was so desperate to go on and score.”

Salah has become Liverpool’s talismanic ever since he joined the club from Roma in the summer of 2017. Ian Rush opined that the Egyptian was the best player in the world last season. He said, “Mo was incredible last season. For me, he was the best player in the world. At the start of this season it was more difficult for him. Teams had sussed him out a bit and were putting two men on him.

But playing him through the middle has worked brilliantly. He’s become a better, more complete player. On a personal level he might not achieve what he did last season, but if he scores 30 goals and Liverpool win the title he’s had an even better season. People talk about Torres and Suarez, they were great players but they weren’t around long enough. I want Mo to stick around for a lot longer than them and become a true legend here.”

Salah did not have a very good start to the season but he has gradually become more lethal in front of goal as the season has progressed. The 26-year old has scored 19 goals in 31 matches so far. Salah is currently the top scorer of the Premier League, scoring 16 goals in 23 matches which is only two goals less than his tally at this stage last season.

Salah will hope to continue his good form and produce another strong performance on Wednesday when Liverpool face Leicester City at Anfield.
