Liverpool fans might be in for a doozy as their biggest club legend, Steven Gerrard could be on his way into the Premier League sooner than they had expected.

The Rangers manager is being lined up to replace Rafael Benitez at Newcastle United. Reports claim that Gerrard has already been approached by Mike Ashley.

He believes that the Reds legend is ready to take over at St. James’ Park even with only one year of managerial experience in the Scottish Premiership.

Newcastle survived relegation last term but the club failed to agree terms with Benitez, the one manager who earned back promotion into the Premier League after going down to the second division in 2016.

There was constant tension between him and Ashley due to the lack of financial support from the latter. Eventually, Benitez decided to move after his contract ended in June to Chinese Super League outfit, Dalian Yifang.

Now, the Premier League side are set looking for a new boss and we very well cannot rule out the possible appointment of Gerrard. The Mirror might claim that the Englishman has turned down the offer but we all know how ambitious he is.

Gerrard is currently training his Gers for Europa League qualification next week which leaves Ashley to look for a replacement soon. He also contacted Patric Vieira about the vacant position but was swiftly told that he is happy at Nice.
