Darwin Nunez was subbed off with a shoulder injury.
The Reds managed to secure a 2-0 win against Newcastle United last night at St James’ Park.
The victory came at a cost with Nunez subbed before the 60-minute mark after the Uruguayan landed on his shoulder.
After a slow start to his Liverpool career, Nunez has bagged 11 goals and four assists in 28 games for the Reds.
Liverpool are now only six points short of the top-four with one game in hand.
It would be a massive blow for Jurgen Klopp if the 23-year-old striker is out for a long time.
‘The bad news is Darwin has something on his shoulder. We will see,’ the manager said in his post-match press conference.
‘In the end he had to go off with a shoulder issue and we need further assessments. I don’t know in the moment.
‘In the moment it’s painful. Hopefully it’s just painful and nothing more.’
They will now turn their attention to hosting Real Madrid in the round-of-16 tie of the Champions League on Tuesday.
