Liverpool manager Klopp defends Fabinho decision

Fabinho was on the bench in the Manchester United defeat.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has defended his decision not to start Fabinho in Monday’s loss to Manchester United.

The Brazilian was on the bench as the Reds suffered a 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford.

Asked about if the decision not to start Fabinho was physical, Klopp spoke to reporters: “No, we have in the moment five senior midfielders and we have to start with three.

“We could start with two if we would have more attackers but we have only three attackers, so it means we start with three and then we change during the game and it’s like how we want to start.

“And how we want to change, we have to think before the game and that’s the only reason for it. This is not the story of the game as well. It’s just the decision for this game.”

Liverpool now have just two points from the first three games as their previous two games ended in a draw. They are yet to win their first game of the season.
