Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita will be missing the next two months of action, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.
Keita injured himself in the 3-0 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League and got replaced by Jordan Henderson. Keita walked off the pitch in seething pain and it looked like a groin injury.
The Guinean midfielder took some time to settle down in England and has been pivotal to Liverpool’s exemplary Premier league run. The Reds still do have a chance to lift the Premier League title but Manchester City definitely hold the edge.
Keita’s quality proved to be handy in the second half of the season and his absence will be missed although Klopp does have Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in his armoury if needed.
Klopp said, “It was really unlucky – and bad news
“He has a high grade adductor injury. The tendon is ruptured, which keeps him out for at least, I would say, two months.
“Bad news for us, bad news for Guinea as well, because the Africa Cup of Nations is coming up.
“That is how football and life sometimes are, not too nice. But it is very serious and for sure it is not the best moment for him.
“He will not be part of a very interesting part of the season and the Africa Cup of Nations was a big target for him as well.
“So, it is not a good moment but that is the moment you have to help the players. We will try everything we can.”
