Liverpool not given up hope of bringing Michael Edwards back to club

Liverpool’s owners attempted to discuss a possible return with Edwards at the end of last month.

Liverpool are focusing on their upcoming plans ahead of the new season in the summer. They are keen to bring former sporting director Michael Edwards back to the club. The Merseyside club are preparing for a turbulent summer.

Jurgen Klopp is also leaving the club in the summer after spending nine years at Anfield. The Reds will now look for the potential replacements. Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso is the frontrunner to take the job. Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim is also on the radar of Liverpool.

Liverpool also need a new sporting director after Jorge Schmadtke left his role following the end of the winter transfer window. Schmadtke was effectively viewed as a stop-gap replacement for Edwards’ successor, Julian Ward, who left his role last summer.

The report adds that Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group attempted to discuss a possible return with Edwards at the end of last month. The 44-year-old has turned down Liverpool’s initial approach.

The Times states that he would want to assume full control of football operations if he is to consider the prospect of returning to Anfield.
