Only two Liverpool players received a red card during the 2018/19 season. They were captain Jordan Henderson and vice-captain James Milner. Both players received two yellow cards and from the same referee- John Moss.
Henderson’s sending off was the first to occur. This happened during Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Watford. Henderson received his first yellow card during the hour-mark and received his second yellow following a foul on Etienne Capoue. The Liverpool captain subsequently missed the season’s first Merseyside Derby.
Milner’s sending off came during one of the most thrilling Premier League encounters of the season between Liverpool and Crystal Palace. He received his first yellow during the 82nd minute of the match before fouling Wilfried Zaha which propelled referee Jonathan Moss (who was Milner’s PE teacher in school) to give Milner his marching orders. Liverpool eventually won the match 4-3.

James Milner was the second one to be sent off, this happening during Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Milner received his first yellow during the 40th minute and his second just after the hour-mark. Liverpool were trailing 1-0 when Milner was off but went on to win the match thanks to goals from Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke.
The third red card for Liverpool came during their 3-1 defeat to Swansea City at Liberty Stadium. Brad Smith was the one to be sent off in the 76th minute after receiving his second yellow card.
