So which players do you think should be on this list? Which players never made it at Liverpool? Who were the Liverpool players that never made it?

10. Ryan Kent – Liverpool Players That Never Made It

Ryan Kent is probably the latest name to be included on this list since he departed from Liverpool this summer for a permanent switch to Rangers FC. Even with the building up a lot of hype with his prior loan spell to Glasgow, he somehow had no shot of breaking into the Reds senior squad under Jurgen Klopp. Hopefully, he gets to fulfil his potential under Steven Gerrard.

9. Oussama Assaidi – One Of The Liverpool Players That Never Made It

Assaidi was signed from Heerenveen for only £2.4m as Brendan Rodgers marked him as an “exciting talent”. The winger failed to impress both in Liverpool and on his loan spell to Stoke City, eventually being sold off to Al-Ahli Dubai at a loss.

8. Andy Carroll – Liverpool Players That Never Made It

“I wasn’t ready to leave,” Andy Carroll was quoted. “It came as a shock. Newcastle was my club. I was 22. I could never get a grip at Liverpool.”

Well, that is not the statement or the ambition one might want to hear from a club-record signing. What was Roy Hogson thinking when he vetted the player before signing him? Carroll apparently made claims that Newcastle United had forced him out of the club but the Magpies denied those rumours.

Nevertheless, Carroll arrived on a £35m transfer, immediately becoming the most expensive British player at the time. He eventually scored only 6 Premier League goals in his three years at Anfield.

7. Fabio Borini – Liverpool Players That Never Made It

Fabio Borini never looked like a naturally talented forward but boy, did he work hard. The Italian played in almost every forward position for Liverpool but still could not match up to the standards of a top Premier League club.

He moved on to Sunderland for a loss of around £3-5m with whom he suffered relegation and is now back in Italy.

6. Alberto Aquilani – Liverpool Players That Never Made It

Footballers Who Never Reached Their Liverpool Potential

Every top manager in the world has a history of bad signing out of which one stands out like a nail in a flat dining table. Alberto Aquilani might be that one name in Rafael Benitez’s books.

Liverpool paid £17m to sign him but the move never panned out. Riddled with injuries, Aquilani failed to make an impact for the Reds and after only one season was loaned out to Juventus and then to AC Milan. Fiorentina bought him out for £800,000 with the midfielder quoted to have said, “Maybe I should have stayed at Liverpool.”

5. Robbie Keane – Liverpool Players That Never Made It

Liverpool looked really promising in 2008, still fresh off the European glory they achieved three years back. They had found themselves a gem in Fernando Torres and it only seemed right to pair him with the right supportive piece in the attack.

The Reds picked up Robbie Keane for £19.3m after failing to get Rafael Benitez’s ideal target, Gareth Barry. The Irish forward was made to change up his game drastically to fit into the Liverpool setup which, as you can tell now, did not work.

He never looked comfortable and had to wait till October to get his first goal for the club. In the end, he netted 7 times in 28 appearances before being sold back to Tottenham Hotspur at a severe loss of £7m.

4. Jon Flanagan – Liverpool Players That Never Made It

Even before Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jon Flanagan was the homegrown right-back that Liverpool fans were raging about back in the day. The Englishman came out of the club’s Academy and made around 40 appearances in the league. Unfortunately, his growth stagnated after Brendan Rodgers’ departure and it was followed by a huge controversy around him and his ex-girlfriend, the player being charged criminally for violent conduct.

Loan spells to Burnely and Bolton Wanderers proved to be worthless as Jurgen Klopp had no choice but to let the defender walk. Steven Gerrard agreed to take Flanagan under his stewardship and signed him at Rangers in 2018. Watch & Bet Football Here =>

3. Jordan Ibe – Liverpool Players That Never Made It

Players Who Failed At Liverpool

Jordan Ibe was drawing a lot of comparisons during his early Liverpool days. The youngster was fast, skilful and an astute dribbler. Many thought he was the second coming of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the Arsenal ranks.

Ironically, the Ox did not pan out for the Gunners and signed for Liverpool and Ibe was sold off to Bournemouth for £15m. Ibe struggles to score or assist in the Cherries lineup and now has turned into a second-string option.

3. Raheem Sterling – Liverpool Players That Never Made It

Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling was part of the Liverpool squad but he made a disappointing exit from the club.

After coming through the ranks at QPR, it was at Liverpool where Sterling announced himself on the world stage. Contract dispute at Anfield made the Englishman to join City in the summer of 2015 for a reported fee of £49million.

Raheem Sterling also talked about his exit from Liverpool, “Sometimes you’ve got to know what you want. Your career is only short, you don’t really know what’s going to happen.

“When friends or something ask what it’s like at Anfield, I always say if you have a game coming up against Manchester United or Man City, it almost felt like the fans and the city gave you an extra superpower, making you feel like you could do things you didn’t think you could do, that’s how it felt. It’s a really special stadium.”

2. Iago Aspas – Liverpool Players That Never Made It

Iago Aspas is another Brendan Rodgers signing that simply was not meant to be. He was far too weak for the Premier League and his lack of adaptability made it difficult for him to succeed at Liverpool.

The Spaniard arrived from Celta Vigo for £9m in 2013. It was ridiculous how long Liverpool fans backed this lad since he failed to score a single Premier League goal for them in 2 years. Shockingly, when returned back to Celta, he immediately turned back into an outright star and is now a legendary figure at the Abanca-Balaidos. He even made his way into the Spain squad after going back to the La Liga, earning 18 caps till date and scoring 6 international goals.

Who From The Current Squad Might Make This List Soon?

For us, that would be Firminho. Liverpool are such a well-oiled machine, with such a defined notion of play, that Klopp’s side has been able to bed in new attacking additions – with Firmino being the biggest casualty. Watch & Bet Football Here =>
