Liverpool pounce for Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes

Liverpool are nearing a deal that would see Nunes head to Anfield in a £44million deal this summer.

Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has told GiveMeSport, Liverpool could pounce for Matheus Nunes as Wolverhampton Wanderers‘ transfer business may ‘open the door’ for a move to Anfield.

Liverpool recently signed Cody Gakpo for a fee of £44million before the winter window officially opened at the turn of the year. Jurgen Klopp could freshen up his squad with further reinforcements ahead of the deadline.

As per Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Reds are keen on signing Nunes ahead of next season and he is on a list of potential targets.

The transfer guru adds a potential switch to Merseyside was already discussed ahead of his move to Wolves, while the central midfielder is not seen as an alternative option to Jude Bellingham.

Liverpool are nearing a deal that would see Nunes head to Anfield in a £44million deal this summer. The Portugal international only joined Wolves in August, for up to £42.2million, but Klopp’s side had already received scouting reports prior to his Molineux arrival.

Taylor told GiveMeSport: “It does kind of provide an indication that someone might be going, whether that’s this month or the summer. We know Ruben Neves is approaching the end of his contract, so I’m guessing it might be pre-planning for his departure.

“But, to me, signing two midfielders does sort of open the door for Liverpool to potentially try their luck with a move for Nunes.”

Nunes has built up English top-flight experience thanks to his move to Wolves, making 16 appearances, and that will be another attraction for Klopp.
