Liverpool are actually considering a £67m move for Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio.
The Reds have been linked with the attacking midfielder for over a course of a year now but no official bids were ever made for a possible transfer.
Asensio himself is at odds with Zinedine Zidane after failing to cement a starting role in the past 5 seasons. Zidane views the Spaniard as an important piece in his squad but there is no telling if he will hand him a starting spot any time soon.
Madrid just reinforced their wings with Eden Hazard and Rodrygo with Vinicius Junior, Gareth Bale and Lucas Hernandez already at the club. They are also heavily involved in the race for Manchester United’s Paul Pogba and even Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen.
If either were to come into the Bernabeu this summer, that could possibly end Asensio’s chances of securing a starting XI role. Liverpool are in a disadvantage going up against Spurs for the 22-year-old.
Mauricio Pochettino can bring in Asensio much more easily on an exchange deal for Eriksen that Liverpool can. The playmaker is also not guaranteed to be an instant hit at Anfield since he will be competing for game time against Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri.
