According to the latest reports, Liverpool are readying up £30m for Real Betis fullback, Junior Firpo.
Jurgen Klopp is looking to find a backup for Andy Robertson after he released Alberto Moreno from the club. The Reds were blessed with Robertson’s top-notch performances last season which possibly turned him into the best left-back in the Premier League or even the world.
However, if he were to go down to injury, Klopp will have no answer and that could seriously damage their chances of winning more silverware next term.
Junior Firpo has really caught the light during his time 50 appearances for the La Liga outfit. He has also represented the Spanish U21 side once and is quickly making a name for himself.
The 22-year-old could offer the Scotsman some serious competition with his pace and ability going forward.
Joe Gomez is a versatile defensive option for Liverpool but we all can agree, that he is best suited to the centre-back spot. It is highly unlikely that he will be able to keep up with the requirements of a traditional left-back.
Klopp made the decision to feature Gomez in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final draw against Barcelona and very quickly came to learn how big a mistake that was. It is imperative that a secondary option is signed this very summer.
