Liverpool are set to bolster their coaching staff with the appointment of FC Porto coach Vitor Matos. Liverpool set to add Porto coach to their staff.
Matos is set to take up a role to smooth path from academy to first team. Matos had been working at Porto B, where he’s one of the assistant coaches for Rui Barros. The Portuguese spent a short spell as under-16s coach and Youth Team Technical Director at Shandong Luneng Taishan last season.
The Portuguese first joined the reigning Primeira Liga champions in 2011, working as an opposition scout before taking on the job of B team assistant boss. He had several roles at the Dragons since then. He was only outside of the club in 2017 and 2018, when he went to China as Youth Team Technical Director at Shandong Luneng Taishan.
Lijnders is now Jurgen Klopp‘s assistant manager. Matos has previously worked alongside Lijnders at Porto, where he has enjoyed two separate spells in various roles.
Lijnders had this role previously before his promotion from first-team development coach to Klopp’s assistant manager following Zeljko Buvac’s shock departure.

He holds the UEFA Elite Youth A License qualification and has a Masters in physical education. It’s reported that the appointment could be confirmed by Liverpool before the end of the week.
