Liverpool are intensifying their pursuit of Atalanta’s standout forward, Ademola Lookman, as they aim to bolster their attacking options ahead of the 2025–26 season.
Liverpool will return for Atalanta’s Lookman in ambitious summer move
The 27-year-old Nigerian international has been in exceptional form, registering 17 goals and 7 assists in 30 appearances this season, following a remarkable 2023–24 campaign where he netted a hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, leading Atalanta to their first European trophy.
Liverpool, along with Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea, are reportedly preparing bids in the region of £37 million to £50 million for Lookman.
However, Atalanta have been firm in their stance, having rejected Liverpool’s approach in the January transfer window and valuing Lookman at €60 million (£50 million).
Despite previous underwhelming stints in the Premier League with Everton, Fulham, and Leicester City, Lookman has revitalized his career in Italy, showcasing his versatility and attacking prowess.
His performances have not only earned him the 2024 African Footballer of the Year award but also attracted interest from top European clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain.
Liverpool’s interest in Lookman is also influenced by the underwhelming performances of Federico Chiesa, who has struggled to make an impact at Anfield.
Reports suggest that Liverpool might consider using Chiesa as part of a swap-plus-cash deal to secure Lookman’s services.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Liverpool are expected to make a renewed effort to sign Lookman, aiming to add depth and dynamism to their attacking lineup.
With Atalanta’s firm stance on the player’s valuation, negotiations are anticipated to be challenging, but Liverpool’s determination indicates that they are serious contenders in the race for Lookman’s signature.
