Liverpool should have come for Cavani - Nicol

Edinson Cavani joined Manchester United in the summer.

The erstwhile PSG striker was made a free agent in the summer after the Parisian club decided against renewing his contract.

Cavani stayed free all summer with United wrapping up an expensive deal for him at the last moment to fill in their gap for a frontline striker.

Cavani, is 32 and unlikely to be a long-term option. However, he does add vital quality on the bench, something ESPN TV Pundit Steve Nicol believes Liverpool are lacking.

He went on to say that Jurgen Klopp would have had a smart deal on his hand had he managed to scoop up Edinson Cavani for free in the summer.

Nicol said on ESPN: “Edinson Cavani is a good option coming off the bench for any team.

“I wouldn’t have had a problem if Liverpool had signed Cavani for coming off the bench with 20 minutes to go.”

As of now, Liverpool are a team plagued by injuries with 9 first team players missing from action.

Klopp will have his hands full as he prepares to deliver a team ahead of the next match in the weekend versus Leicester City.
